Who can get a Blue Badge?
Some people qualify without further assessment, including certain recipients of mobility benefits and people who are registered blind or severely sight impaired. Other people may qualify following an assessment because walking is impossible or very difficult, because of substantial non-visible disabilities, or under other qualifying circumstances.
Eligibility is determined under the rules of the nation where you live and by the responsible authority. Do not rely on a third-party website to decide whether you qualify.
What do you need to apply?
The official service says applicants normally need a recent digital photo, proof of identity, proof of address and any relevant proof of benefits. You may also need supporting evidence about your disability or health condition. If you already have a badge and are reapplying, have its details available.
How much does a Blue Badge cost?
As of August 2026, the official GOV.UK service states that a Blue Badge costs up to £10 in England and £20 in Scotland, and is free in Wales. Northern Ireland has a separate process. Check the official service at the time you apply because fees can change.
How long does a Blue Badge last?
Badges usually last for up to three years. You need to reapply before the current badge expires; renewal is not automatic.
